Membership Information

The Roxbury Swim & Tennis Club membership is open to all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation national origin, age, physical or mental limitation or disabled status. There shall be no policy of giving member preference to anyone for any reason.

Roxbury Swim and Tennis Club is a corporation, organized and existing under the laws of the State of Connecticut. Its' purpose is to promote athletic and social activities among its members. A membership in the Club consists of either a Family Unit, a Single Unit, a Senior Couple Unit, or a Senior Single Unit. The Club By-Laws limit the number of membership units within each category.

A Family Unit is defined as one or two adults and all unmarried children under the age of 26, as of May 30th, living in the same household. Children under the age of 26 must live at home a minimum of three months per year to qualify as a member of the Family Unit. A Family Unit may not consist of two unrelated single adults living together primarily for financial reasons (i.e. roommates). If a Family Unit bondholder is divorced, his or her children under the age of 26 shall be considered a part of the Bondholder’s Family Unit whether or not they reside in the Bondholder’s household.

A Single Unit is defined as one unmarried, divorced or widowed adult 21 years or older. The Board of Governors may allow a married individual who has been a bondholding member of the Club for a minimum of five years to qualify as a Single Unit, and standard guests rules would then apply to his/her family. The unit dues are 60% of the Family Unit dues.

A Senior Couple Unit is defined as two adults living in the same household where at least one is a minimum of 65 years of age as of May 30th. Children are not considered a part of this membership unit. The unit dues are 60% of the Family unit dues.

A Senior Single Unit is defined as one unmarried, divorced or widowed adult who is a minimum of 65 years of age. The unit dues are 40% of the Family unit dues.

All membership units are required to pay a one-time capital assessment fee, purchase a non-transferable bond, and pay annual dues set by the Board of Governors.

Applying for Membership

All applications for membership in the Club must be sent to the Board of Governors Membership Chairperson and shall be accompanied by a $50 application fee and the written recommendation of one adult club member who personally knows the applicant and who proposes and sponsors him/her for membership. If the applicant does not know any members he/she may obtain membership through a meeting with a representative from the Board.  The Board shall vote upon each application for membership, and an affirmative vote of five members of the Board shall be required for approval of membership. The Board may require any applicant to personally appear before it prior to voting on the application of said applicant.
