Roxbury Swim & Tennis Club is currently looking for enthusiastic, friendly and hard working staff members. The following positions are available for the 2019 spring/summer season.

Aquatics Director (Spring/Summer 2019)

We are seeking an experienced, organized, and service-oriented Aquatics Director to manage pool-related responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Coordinating the daily opening and closing of the club’s pool facilities.
  • Hiring, scheduling, training and managing certified lifeguards.
  • Hiring, scheduling and managing aquatics instructors.
  • Managing the pool office and the front desk administrator(s).
  • Overseeing the maintenance & cleaning of the pools, pool pavilion and playground area.
  • Assisting the aquatics team coaches and aquatics chairperson with organizing and managing team meets/games and social events.

The Aquatics Director will report directly to the General Manager (GM) and will work closely with the aquatics staff as well as the Aquatics and Pool Operations committee chairpersons. This is a seasonal position – Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend, but it requires time for pre-season planning and staffing as well as post-season reporting and planning. The ideal candidate is someone who is interested in a long-term seasonal position.

The Aquatics Director, with the support of the entire aquatics staff, must work together to create an environment where families feel safe while having fun; rules are respected by all; and coaches and lifeguards are dependable, responsible, attentive and service-oriented.

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pre-Season:

  • Assist the GM with identifying lifeguard and pool office staffing requirements.
  • Recruit, interview and hire lifeguards, aquatics instructors, and pool office staff.
  • Identify pool equipment and supply needs.
  • Assist the GM with overseeing the pool management company during the opening of the main pool and kiddy pool/splash pad.
  • Assist the GM in scheduling the opening of the pool pavilion and snack bar.
  • Ensure all lifeguards and coaches have proper certifications prior to their first day of week.
  • Establishing a staff schedule for daily open and closing of the pools, guard rotations, and front desk coverage.

Spring/Summer Season – Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend:

  • Maintain high safety standards in and around the pools, pool pavilion and playground.
  • Follow all State of CT and City of Stamford health and safety codes.
  • Proactively and effectively enforce club rules.
  • Monitor pool filtration systems, pH/ORP chemical controller, and water supply.
  • Order pool chemicals and supplies as needed.
  • Maintain a daily log of chlorination and pH levels in the main pool and kiddy pool.
  • Ensure the pools, pool equipment, locker rooms and areas around the pool are clean, sanitary and orderly during regular pool hours, competitions, special events, etc.
  • Monitor and oversee the maintenance staff in the cleaning of the pool decks, pool pavilion breezeway & upper deck, locker rooms & bathrooms, and playground area.
  • Monitor activity on the pool decks, in the pools, on the upper pool pavilion deck, in the pool pavilion breezeway, and in the playground.
  • Schedule hourly inspections of the pool pavilion bathrooms and locker rooms.
  • Provide ongoing lifeguard training to ensure a safe and positive pool environment.
  • Maintain an accident/incident report log.
  • Order first aid and safety equipment as needed.
  • Handle any necessary employee disciplinary action.
  • Assist the head aquatics coaches with team registration, volunteer recruitment, team communication, event planning and team billing.
  • Assist the aquatics instructors with scheduling of private & group swim & dive lessons.
  • Provide GM with bi-weekly payroll hours for the lifeguard and pool office staff.
  • Input member billing into club’s point of sale system for aquatics team participant fees, private and group aquatics instruction, aquatics team social events, guest fees, aquatics team attire, party fees, etc.
  • Send regular email communications to members regarding all pool events and changes in the schedule, e.g., practices, competitions, social events.
  • Maintain the aquatics bulletin boards including posting pool hours, pool rules, team practice times, competition days/times, lap swim schedule, event photos, etc.
  • Look for ways to improve the aquatics program within reasonable budgetary guidelines, and recommend capital expenditures to ensure best practices of operation.
  • Perform other tasks as delegated by the GM, and ensure the necessary aquatics staff members are informed of any issues or necessary contingencies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills, Credentials:

  • 2+ years’ experience in pool and staff management.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills – able to interact professionally and effectively with members and staff.
  • Effective leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Computer experience with Excel and Word.
  • Pluses: Certifications in Pool Operations (CPO), Water Safety Instruction (WSI), Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, and AED.
  • Work Permit Required. Applicants who do not already have legal permission to work in the United States will not be considered.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hours may vary – may extend beyond 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week. Will include weekends, evenings and holidays.
  • Ability to work outdoors a majority of the time in varying temperatures and conditions.
  • Must be able to:  Bend and lift loads, not to exceed 50 pounds; Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds; Swim in 12+ feet of water.

Head Lifeguard (Spring/Summer 2019) 

The Head Lifeguard is responsible for assuring the safety of swimming pool users by preventing and responding to emergencies and by the on-site supervision of lifeguards. In addition, the Head Lifeguard is responsible for assisting the Aquatics Director and/or Pool Manager on Duty with maintaining a high standard of cleanliness of the swimming pools, surrounding decks, furniture, equipment, pool office pool pavilion and playground.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Act as liaison between the Aquatics Director and the lifeguard staff.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director with scheduling of the lifeguard staff.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director with overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of the main pool, wading pool, surrounding pool deck, furniture & equipment, pool office, pool pavilion and playground.
  • Perform daily safety/cleanliness inspections of pool facility. Analyze and correct hazards as applicable and report hazards and corrective steps taken to the Aquatics Director.
  • Monitor all chemical readings and mechanical operations of pool. Correct or report any chemical abnormalities or mechanical problems immediately to the Aquatics Director and/or Pool Manager on Duty. Assist with clearing pool and closing facility if situation is uncorrectable and presents a safety hazard to members.
  • Oversee pool operations records and reports, including but not limited to lifeguard staff time sheets, daily pool maintenance checklists, pool chemical test results, accident reports, and member sign-in sheets.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director and/or Pool Manager on Duty with ensuring lifeguards perform required duties, adhere to club rules and standards, and maintain a high level of professionalism.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director with lifeguard training.
  • Assist the Aquatics Director with the review and evaluation of lifeguard staff performance.
  • Recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations.

  • Cover the pool office front desk as assigned by the Aquatics Director, Pool Manager on Duty, or General Manager.
  • Assist with set-up and clean-up of club aquatics events and social events.
  • Notify Aquatics Director, Pool Manager on Duty, or General Manager of any member concerns or complaints.
  • Complete any additional duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director or Pool Manager on Duty.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of paid lifeguard experience; head or senior lifeguard experience a plus. Must have thorough knowledge and application of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques. Demonstrated ability to perform job duties and responsibilities with minimum supervision.
  • Certifications: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training / First Aid / CPR / AED certifications. Successful completion of Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Management courses a plus.
  • Member Services Skills: Must be member service oriented, accurate, self-motivated, and be able to use time efficiently.
  • Work Availability: Must be willing to work irregular hours, shifts, holidays or weekends as required.
  • Other Conditions: Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more and have high endurance for frequent walking, standing, kneeling, sitting and swimming. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
